What is a Ten Frame ?

If you are a parent of a preschool or kindergarten kid then this tool can be really useful in helping kids visualize numbers.

Ten frame is nothing but a rectangular frame divided into 10 individual boxes which are arranged in 2 rows of 5.

Numbers to 10 can be represented by putting a dot or a counter in each box.

  1. Black marker
  2. Paper roll
  3. Counters like small toys
  4. Sticky notes

Let’s Play & Learn

It’s very easy to make your own ten frame . Grab a big piece of paper and draw a big rectangular frame and divided into 2 rows with 5 boxes in each.

Next is to grab 10 counters that can be placed inside these boxes. You can use anything that you have at home – blocks , toy cars or something similar.

Write numbers 1 -10 on 10 different sticky notes and have your child choose a number and make that number on the ten frame starting from the top row.

For first few times , you can help the child by showing them how to make a number on ten frame.
