Introducing addition – easy hands on activity

Nothing makes me more happy than introducing math concepts in hands on way where there is no need of flashcards or memorizing because math needs to be understood conceptually.

With hands on activity we our teaching the abstract concepts to make real sense for our young children.

Learning Meter

  1. Addition
  2. Counting

Supplies Needed

  1. Old egg carton tray
  2. Pom moms or any counting materials
  3. Index cards or sticky notes
  4. Black marker

Let’s Play & Learn

To begin the activity let’s first teach the meaning of addition by explaining that ‘two numbers join together to make a larger number’

Next write some simple equations on few index cards and grab some pom poms and egg carton.

Pick a card and read the first equation , demonstrate and show by counting and adding the pom poms.

Now , let your child independently solve the next equations and you can help if needed.
